I guess I better put this disclaimer in here. My dog Maggie chewed up our foot rail when she was a puppy. She slept with us and woke us up with the sound of her being a little beaver/ wood chuck on the bed at night. So, we eventually had to remove her from the bed at night so that she would chew on her toys and not our bed. I think it gives the bed character though and brings back good memories, so we will not replace it. (though I know it looks crappy)
